Bowls

From drawing as mindful practice class...focusing on a bowl...i invited the class to meditate for 5 min on their bowl, observing its size, shape, colors, patterns, inside, outside, location and then write/sketch the bowl in a variety of contexts...

as i was naming contexts/relationships/places i might find this bowl(a studio, kitchen, cereal, another bowl on top, different background, on a shelf, in a tree, incense holder, more polka dots, a spoon, a story about it, in my hand, with plates...)a story began to draw/write itself...its not so much the story itself that was interesting to me...it was the flow i found myself in....after the initial story, the bowl wanted to go on other adventures...

Stage Doodle

I was futzing around with large doodle pieces thinking it might work for IWOW stage set this month(layers was theme).  I wasnt sure about anything, trying to let go of stressing, playing, rearranging, re-coloring, feeling my way.  Some shapes along the way clearly were 'not right' so they got cut, reshaped. Interesting to play with scale, in terms of each piece in relationship to eachother(some needed to be smaller, some bigger, but not all the same size), negative space(love that the neg space shapes are just as interesting as painted shapes), relationship of shapes and relationship of colors. And then there was the angle of each shape in relationship to the one next to it, and how it connected or overlapped.  Then there is how its all going to be supported so it doesnt fall over on stage if a piece gets bumped.  And then there is ME, my patience/impatience/fear/curiosity, my thoughts, my behavior, rushing, taking my time, loving, worrying, uncertainty...artmaking is not for the feint of heart.  Making anything takes courage and a commitment to navigate all that MIND TERRITORY.  I left it up for IWOW last nite...and loved looking at it!!! posted 2 pics so you can see scale.

Doodling Along....

Yesterday after a bout of crankiness and struggle...I stayed in studio, scribbling, writing, reading old journals and found my way to arranging cardboard shapes in this way...seems to satisfy something in me to see them standing up, like trees or barriers that i can peek around, get in between...
i am getting a kick out of the photograph...its like every inch of the room is FULL with stuff.

Evolving Doodle

back in the studio...playing with painted wooden board, adding cardboard pop-up doodles...using dowels...figuring out how to attach pieces technically so they can be removed/moved around, rearranged easily...enjoying myself.

On A Doodle Roll

i am on a roll...Michele inspired me with her doodle automatic face and moving parts drawings...i have some very large boards that i was going to use for another project but didnt like it so i took a chance and painted shapes on it...a large scale doodle...in the past i have used cardboard but i dont have cardboard at the moment and i dont want the big boards to go to waste...about 5 or 6 feet long, 3 feet wide...i have one 11 feet long...will work on that 'tomorrow'. i am excited!!!! surprisingly i really like what's happening and i can pop out pieces by making extra pieces in wood and screwing them to board...these are photoshopped, part paint, part computer colored...the first image is a drawing that i see can be cut out of wood...second is painting in process...
